Oak parquet restores the apartment’s original historic charm to the hallway while setting a warm and bright tone upon entering.

The living room, with its charred timber ceiling and view of the courtyard, is Lachie's favorite space in the house.

Large sliding doors connect the kitchen to the outdoor area.

A banquette seat in Perron's office (in bubblegum pink to match the walls, of course) gives the workspace a homey feeling.

The curtain in the back covers up a door that leads to an exit stairway that’s going to be renovated in the future: a stylish makeshift solution.

Marita painted the kitchen floor in a checked pattern, and added Rifle Paper Co “Peacock Wallpaper” in Emerald to go with the kitchen cabinets painted Benjamin Moore "Forest Green.

For Wakoko, the studio is the ideal place to work. “One of my favorite effects created by the addition is the feel of being outside, so close to the garden, when the set of multi-slide doors are completely opened,” she describes.

Like all of her projects, the expansion’s design was guided by the principals of simplicity, nature and functionality; this ethos is reflected in both the layout of the space and in the materials and detailing, including of the wall of modular shelving.

On the interior of the extension, materials were kept simple, straightforward, and functional; the floors are polished concrete, the walls and ceilings are clad in plywood, and the existing wall of the home was painted with milk paint, which is non-toxic.

Custom built-in storage was a splurge Michelle and Haden were willing to spend on. In the laundry room, Fireclay tiles were another high-spend choice. "It was out of our budget," Michelle says, "but it was so dramatic, and we saved so much by using inexpensive white tile in the bathroom.

The gallery includes a built-in bookcase painted in Farrow & Ball’s Hay, which complements the white oak flooring. A sculptural light, chosen in white to match the ceiling and walls, adds visual interests.

The family room across from the open bedroom features a Nelson Bubble Globe pendant, IKEA Alseda floor stools, and an heirloom tapestry wall hanging.
